Alternative to cooking out

January 24, 2017 by nutri

Cooking out with steam still remains the safest option when emptying growing rooms. However you must bear in mind that steam will not get your floors to a high enough temperature to kill  most mushroom pathogens, which means another strategy must be adopted.

One such strategy is using a tried and tested mushroom disinfectant like Sporekill (Nutriclean). It is ideal for cleaning growing rooms; floors, walls and shelving etc. It is, in our opinion, the best solution for floors because after  disinfection action it leaves a odourless protective film over all the tiny cracks and holes on the floor surface, sealing any remaining spores and debris settling after filling of your rooms. This stops any disease becoming airborne again and leaves surfaces clean and safe for foot traffic and packaging bases.

Don’t just take our word for it….our customers are the proof, it’s a fact that once they start using it they rarely change back to any other disinfectant and your mushrooms will never have any unsafe residues in them.

We have made a new video presentation about our disinfectant  to explain about its benefits in more detail.

Reduction of Verticillium disease spread

April 15, 2016 by nutri

“Consider what happens after a diseased crop is watered; pools of contaminated water collect on the floor and some at least will dry out. Sooner or later someone will walk on the floor and disturb debris and Verticillium spores lying on it.

Air sampling showed that it only required one person to walk down the central gangway of a cropping house with a clean dry concrete floor for the dust and spore content of the atmosphere to increase noticeably”

Doreen G Gandy, GCRI

This type of spread can be prevented by sprinkling SPOREKILL on the floor.

All day protection with Sporekill

December 5, 2015 by nutri

soapywellies

It was pointed out to us recently from a long standing user of Sporekill, that he noticed when he took his boots off at the end of every day, they were ‘sticky’ and ‘tacky’ on the soles. So the good news is that spores are going to get stuck to the soap matrix on the boots and not spread around the farm. Another great reason for using Sporekill in your foot dips.

Recent Findings on Disinfection from European research group

March 24, 2015 by nutri

“It is vitally important to disinfect floors after cook out, they are covered in spores like Verticillium and Cobweb even after cookout”

“Growers should disinfect down corridors everyday to prevent build up of spores around the farm; weekly washdowns are too long time period”

Sporekill is perfect for floors because of it additional ‘sealing’ and trapping action on spores and mycelial debris. It also protects against Listeria which can also be found on floor surfaces.

Sporekill Drying

December 28, 2014 by nutri

On our label we state that Sporekill should be left to dry after application. Depending on your procedure will dictate how long drying takes eg If used after cookout (before filling again) the drying time is very quick due warm structure and floor.

Sporekill INCREASES in activity as it dries, reaching its MAXIMUM effectiveness at the point of drying.

USA Tests on Sporekill

December 14, 2014 by nutri

The effect of Sporekill was tested on Trichoderma aggressivum and Verticillium fungicola in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. Click on the link below.

sporekill testing_longwood report 10 0620

The findings were:

Sporekill had a significant effect on mushroom pathogens Trichoderma aggressivum and Verticillium fungicola. The growth of both molds can be effectively inhibited at a concentration of 0.4% on PDA media.

We recommend usage rates between 0.75% and 2% on the farm depending on application.

Original Sporekill Trial Results

November 14, 2014 by nutri

Here are the original trials made with Sporekill on Trichoderma, Verticillium, Mycogne and Dactylium. Click on link to view.

250108 Report on Disinfectants

The findings were as follows:

It was clear that the vigour and growth of the germ tube in all of the pathogens tested was markedly reduced even at the lowest concentration tested.

In all treatments the vigour of the germination recorded was markedly and increasingly reduced as the concentration of the test solution increased.

Above 0.4% no germination was recorded in any of the treatments in the 48h period tested.

Sporekill Trial Results

October 14, 2014 by nutri

Here is the published trials for Sporekill with Trichoderma harzianum and Verticillium Fungicola (click on link)

JohnBurdenTestsSporekill1

The findings were in summary:

It is very clear from these results that Sporekill is very effective at halting germination of spores of the pathogens tested.

At concentrations at or above 0.5 %, Sporekill in these tests killed all pathogens we have tested so far.

When engulfed with Sporekill at concentrations at or above 0.5% the pathogens do not germinate.
